christmas

oh how i love christmas. it is the most wonderful time of the year, after all. i love spending time with cousins that we only see once or twice a year. it's funny how we still can joke around and act like we were never apart even when we never see each other. i love old christmas movies. National Lampoon's Christmas Day Vacation is a family favorite. I love christmas traditions too. boiled custard and christmas bingo at grandmother's house. nuts and bolts. the candlelight service at church. telling harry that christmas was the one day of the year he was allowed to wake me up early in the morning. Our neighbors have really cool traditions. they have a christmas tablecloth that they sign each year. i got to sign it this year. i want to have lots of christmas traditions with my kids. we don't have that many in my family. my mom isn't one for traditions at all. but i will be. i guess you can call me sentimental.

I see all these tweets about being alone during the holidays, as in single. this makes me sad. i'd love to be in love during the holidays. i am a romantic. but really, does it matter? nope. do presents matter? nope. i think that if we just really took time to think about what christmas was all about, it wouldn't matter at all.

“Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Luke 2:10-12

yes this does remind me a bit of linus in charlie brown christmas. the Lord of the universe sent his son Jesus Christ, who will later die to save us from our sins and ultimately come again to further the Kingdom of God was born today. i'd say that's a pretty big deal. I've always been confused as to why we give and get presents on Christmas. it's not our birthday. sometimes i think the presents get in the way of the true meaning of christmas. if you think about it, we should be giving presents to the Lord, not each other. so that's what i'm gonna do. Ally challenged our bible study to give a gift to the Lord for the whole year. one of her friends gave up dating for a whole year.

I dont know what gift i'll give to the Lord yet, but i'll definitely be pondering it. so my question to you guys, my few followers who i have recently discovered, what will be your gift to the Lord this year?
"It may be an idol that needs to be released, a tongue that needs taming, an attitude that needs sweetening/controlling, and area where you're simply ignoring God's word, a sin of rebellion that doesn't honor Him or represent the Church well. But no doubt, there's something you could offer Him who has everything, but who simply desires your holiness. Be willing to share your commitment with your family as you can never know how this may impact their walk or with another sister in Christ who can help hold you accountable." yes my bible party leader is the best.

i think it's a wonderful idea. and it only makes sense that we give Him a gift on His birthday. like Ally said, be willing to share what your gift is, cause you never know how it could impact someone else.
