Even the fool who denies God,
cannot deny that something exists that which nothing greater can exist.
If it exists solely in the mind,
it can be thought to exist in reality, which is greater.
There is absolutely no doubt
something than which a greater cannot be thought exists both in the mind and in
reality.
1. God is A [where A="that than which nothing greater can
be thought”]
2. A is B [where B = “something that can be thought”]
3. B is C [where C = “something that exists in the mind”]
4. A is C [by the transitive property]
5. D is greater than C [where D = “something that exists in reality”]
6. D is greater than A ["something that exists in reality" is greater than "that than which nothing greater can be thought"]
7. therefore A doesn’t = A [by steps 1 and 6]
8. But this is impossible: A cannot not be A [by the law of non contradiction]
9. Therefore either A=D or A>D, which means that.....
10. GOD EXISTS
this basically sums up what we learned in religion class this semester. pretty legit huh?
I've always known that He exists, but it's pretty cool to see it logically proved. i think that any intelligent would agree that God is a) that than which nothing greater can be thought, b) something that can be thought, and c) something that exists in the mind. if someone believes only those three things, then logically, they should believe that He, God, our Lord and Savior, exists.
yes. i realize that this proof requires a lot of thinking. i had to stare at it for at least ten minutes before i fully understood it. but you should try it. it is worth it. i promise.
